Hi Mr. Peter may i ask some help for this underglazed red porcelain jar, if it is real or not? and i think this might be Qing dynasty era??
Thank you
here are some other details
This looks like it could be Raku Japanese.
Hi again Mr. Stan thank you for the reply, so if this is a Raku Japanese, this might be 16 to 17th century?
by the way sizes are dia 15 inches x 10 inches H
Thank you
I don't think Stan. I believe raku was originally a rustic style decoration.
This is underglaze red, with a Yuan dynasty decoration. Basically, I think there are only two possibilities: a genuine late Yuan/early Ming item, or a modern fake.
I have some reservations, however, regarding authenticity. A hands-on inspection would be required. The picture showing the outside has nothing visible hinting to the body being made in two parts, as it should be. A closeup inspection would be required to determine if the bottom was produced separately or not. Nothing is visible here indicating that it was. Why is the bottom this blackish color? If it is a shipwreck item, it should be whitish, if it was excavated, it would also not be of this color, normally.
If you have an opportunity, I would ask someone at a museum or another specialist for a hands-on inspection.
Rake pottery is made with earthenware and not porcelain, is this porcelain or earthenware, if it is porcelain it would have a high ring tone to it when you click it with you finger, earthenware would have a dull sound, it looks like a drip glaze to me that is why I thought raku.
Hi again Mr. Stan, yes it is a porcelain, i click it it has a high ringtone
I also don't know if this is an error/ reject work of underglazed red porcelain..... because the other half is ok and the other half is damage.
Hi again Mr. Peter, i check the jar now and i saw some cutting parts or terminations of the jar
here are some photos, 1st is in the bottom part, and the 2nd and 3rd is in the middle of the jar
the color of the bottom is mix of dark brown and brown
here are some natural sunlight photo
and the weight is 5.5 to 6 kg
dia 15 inches
H 10 inches
I don't think I have ever seen a glaze like this on Chinese porcelain, but I think Peters advise on a hands on inspection is the best for authenticating.
> i saw some cutting parts or terminations of the jar
None is visible on the outside. With pre-Qing items the seam would show frequently on the outside, at least with minyao items.
Sometimes it is difficult to tell for sure from pictures alone...
Thank you Sir Peter for the reply, so this might be 50-50 chance whether it is real or fake....
ill try to find some seam outside, but i think it will be hard to see it because of the thick glazing
Im having a hard time also to find a expert consult here about porcelain, and mostly in our museum are not know to porcelains.... so it's hard to consult it.
Thank you also Mr. Stan for the reply
I have check the jar again but i cant see any seams outside ... only at the bottom part
where there is no glaze on it
