Can anybody help me with this? It is quite large so I'm hesitant to call it a bowl and I can't see any markings. It has some chips and cracks and one handle is repaired with metal staples however there is still some loss. Any ideas?

Thanks.

This is a soup tureen with missing lid.
From what I can make out with these pictures it is possibly not Chinese, but rather European, with a Chinese motif.
Staple repairs were also made in Europe before glues became available in the 19th century.

Soup tureen seems a lot more appropriate than bowl. Thanks. Unfortunately there was no lid. Now that you mention it, it does seems a bit strange, the blue scene is the same on both sides and also inside bottom. It's very incredibly thin too, looks like it would weigh a fair amount but you pick it up and it weighs the same as a coffee mug. Thanks for your input.

Hi, your tureen is English and the pattern is blue willow.
