Hello, I was told by a college translator that this Japanese signage on my plate read: Made by Xiao Shan.  I know there was a Xiao Shan that signed work around 1896 for the Gao Bosheng Company, but since my piece only has the artist's signature it was not made for this company. Does anyone have any other information you could tell me of this piece? Thank you.

By the looks of the small shown area with a crackle glaze it could be Satsuma made by Xiao Shan, dose the plate have a dull sound to it when you click it with your finger, if so it is more than likely Satsuma.

Thank you, I think it does sound a bit dull. I tried to get pictures of the plate to upload but couldn't get the properties of the jpg small enough! The worn rim on the bottom does look like the darker pottery color.

That is the sound of Satsuma it is an earthenware type but very collectable.
