Dear all,

I would like to ask your opinion about another vase, this one a flambé decoration, with a little bit more than 1 feet tall,

As I don't know much about this type of glaze, I don't even know where to start in an evaluation. Any help will be so much appreciated!

Best,

mb

If you look at the mouth you see that red and blue were alternatively poured into the vase, whereas the overlapping area changed to purplish red color. This is unlike flambe vases -- their colors changed in the kiln due to temperatures and oxidating processes which were not controllable. They changed in the kiln every which way and no two would be the same. Basically, the glaze coloration was not man-made but kiln-made... :)

Not sure from when this is, but it is not a flambe vase.  but not sure. With such items we can almost only look at the bottom for dating. It could be late Qing or 20th century, in my view, but this is the body, the glaze could as well have been added later.

Peterp!

Thank you so much for the feedback! Makes a lot of sense. I'm learning a lot!

Best,
