Any suggestions on the age? The foot rim is oblique on the outside and straight on the inside.
The red paint on the face will come off but I have not cleaned it yet. What is the inscribed symbol next to it and the characters on the underside?
Thanks

Kaimen! Underglaze blue/underglaze red decoration.
This is Yongzheng reign to mid-18th century, with sand bottom (unglazed bottom).

Thanks. The antique shop had a tag with 'old imari' on it :)
I cannot find a lot of examples with similar decoration but seems that underglaze blue & red were common for that periods.
The red is kind of strange. I wonder if they were able to control the shades of red produced by the copper during firing or not?

Iron can end up red, green, brown, and it takes a master craftsman with lots of experience to control the kiln temperature just right. Not that important for the more common wares.

"Imari"?  I would stay away. They have no idea of Chinese porcelain, apparently.

It was a general antiqe shop with a bit of everything. That is the beauty of the antique shops in USA. Most of them are not aware of the antique Chinese porcelain. At the same time some would price a fake or recent but old looking piece at super high value.
So, the less the know, the better:) but I have to learn to spot the good pieces.
