Complete newb. What did I find?

First, thank you for any information the members here chose to share, and thanks to those who provide this venue to learn more.

I know next to nothing of oriental Porcelain but the quality of this item appealed to me.

So, what did I find?

Japanese celadon ware.

Mark: "Hakuundo Shube sei";  made by Hakuundo Shube (Hakuundo is the craft shop name)
?????(1st generation) Kato Shube
Japanese potter of the Meiji era.

Thanks for moving this to the proper catagory Peter, and for reading the marks.

If this were from a Western culture I would simply call this a cream pitcher it's only 3-5/8" tall. However in Japan what purpose would this serve?

Hello Peter.

What resources would be most useful if one wanted to learn to read these marks?

Do you have a well stocked reference library or have you spent much time in Asia?
