Large Meiji Era Cobalt Vase

This is a 15 inch cobalt vase with gilding and panels of Japanese life. It is unmarked. I was wondering if this dates to the Meiji Period. It is similar to may smaller cobalt vase, but the artwork is less detailed.

    This looks so new... the art looks like it was crayon by a 5 year old. Satsuma is quality and mostly fine detail, there are exceptions of course but, there is a story where they use to say that they even painted using a single rat hair. yes that's how detailed it was! The colors seem very OFF too. Most piece like this you will find in todays market are very recent Chinese Knockoffs and imitations or cheap mid-century Japanese tourist souvenirs. Stay away from this type of pieces since they don't hold any value.

    I recommend buying a few books on the subject or review some online museums websites with fine examples. People from the UK are selling a lot of fine Satsuma ware for a fraction of the cost on eBay. Good luck!!
