Anyone familiar with this bowl or pattern? Seems old but I have no idea. Chinese, japanese? One mark on the back. I've increased the contrast of the second picture to make it easier to read.

Ahhh. Can I ask... how it is written in english? How is it pronounced?

Forgot that, it is most likely read Isamu, if it is a personal name. But with Japanese names you can never be sure. Some name characters are read differently, despite using the same character, depending on the individual person. The above reading is a more common one.

It would be nice to view the whole bottom and a close up of the foot rim.

Hi lewis, I've never seen a foot rim like this one before, I think this might be a tea bowl, I do not know enough to comment, I know that some of them especially the older ones can be very expensive.

I'm also interested in knowing what the material is. There is a pale green color..could this be celadon? The closest I have come to finding anything with this color combination is by searching "arita celdon" but still haven't come across anything too similar. Also any keywords you might use yourself researching this piece would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!

Hi Lewis, set your bowl on a towel and click it with your finger, if it is a loud ring tone it is porcelain, if it sounds like a clunk then it is stone ware, the foot rim and the scalloped edges makes me think it is 20th century, a studio piece.
