powder canteen? ink jar?

I'd like to know what this is, and roughly its age and where it's likely from.

It's glazed redware, has a corkable center mouth and a small conical spout at the corner.  It is curved to fit a person's waist, and has two rings that could hold a cord to secure it to s belt.  6" wide, 3" tall, not counting spouts.
