Hello,

I have been to an auction house in Amsterdam and wonder if the famille verte vase could be something.
What is your expert opinion judging by the pictures only.
The vase measures 48 cm.

I only have two pictures.

Best regards,
Teunis

Stan

Hi Teunis Van Eijk, the bottom looks 20th century to me, the double ring is perfect from the picture almost looks printed, I bought a vase very similar to yours, the same decoration the people and the red clouds, mine is not a rouleau shape but a very large piece, mine does not have very many scratches has a very shiny surface and not many age signs, what does the auctioneer say about it?

Teunis van Eijk

Hi Stan,

Yes you are right the rings are too perfect. There is no start and finish.
We have not met the auction house master only a few helpers which know nothing about porcelain.
I think I pass on this one.
Thanks for your help.

Regards,
Teunis

Apart from the perfectness of the double ring, please also pay attention to the color of the foot rim. Foot rims are rarely that color, even if an item has been buried in the soil. The second is the blue color of the underglaze blue mark.

I hope sometime in the future I can write another ebook which will concentrate more on such things.
