Brown trade pot?

This was dropped off with 2 ginger jars and some other asian things like amazing bronze foo dogs and 2 buddhas.  Is it asian?  It looks like there was a seal on the jar.

The bottom of the jar has incised cross hatches.  They are also visible on the lower half inside the jar.

Does not look Chinese.

This looks like a studio piece, but really it could be anything, the Japanese did pieces like this but so potters in the US.
