Hello
I am from Belgium and found a couple of Chinese/Japanese items that I bought in a lot along at a car boot sale with hundreds of other 19th-century or earlier items.
I have no idea whether the one here was produced in Europe or in Asia, in the 19th century or earlier.
You will notice three small "dots" making the shape of a triangle (one dot above the head of the bird right - one in the bamboo and one below the tail of the bird).
The plate is in really good condition and looks very ancient. There are no mentions or marks at the back.
Could someone help me identify and value it ?
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Jean

And here is the back of the plate !

The decoration and plate itself do not look Chinese at all.
You seem to think that the support points for stilts may point to a Japanese item?
However, the bottom does not look Japanese either.
I would guess it is either European or from elsewhere.

Well, no, I didn't make myself clear; I am not a specialist in any way and I just Wonder where it was made, when and how much it could be worth, being well conscious it could be European.
Thanks for you kind reply.

Usually a double foot rim would be on a large size charger, what is the size, the blue color is the same color used on Japanese antique porcelain but there is no resemblance to Japanese, I agree with peter, It could be European.

Stan

Peter do you think it could be Islamic?

jeanliege

The diameter is approx. 16cm
Would the red colour of the clay help you identify it ? It is visible in places through the glazing at the back.

Stan

Hi Jeanliege, your guess would be as good as mine, usually a double foot would be for a large charger the second foot would be for support but this is relatively small compared to a large charger.
