I know that a lot of those can be found in Northern America and British Columbia and they were used by the Chinese immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Do you think that this time frame is about right for this one? What do the characters read?

Hi Kardinalisimo, nice jar the characters look like they are Japanese.

The mark reads either San Yi or Yi San. This is a glazed earthenware tea caddy. Probably late Qing dynasty.

Just shows how much I know, I see a lot of the three slash marks on Japanese I think it means made, but apparently this is Chinese.

Stan, if "slash" means  ?, that is the character for the number three (3), both in Japanese and Chinese.
